Welcome to ReSareeCoUk!

We are a mother and daughter team who share a passion for creating unique, eco-friendly homeware and accessories. Our products are handmade using upcycled Asian Silk Saris, Panjabi Salwar Kameez, Chunni and any leftover sari silks lying around.

As a graduate of BSc Textile designing and a former freelance artist specialising in weaving, I have always loved working with my hands and being creative. I have a deep appreciation for the shimmering silks, sheer chiffons, elaborate beading, and bursts of rich colour that are so characteristic of Indian fabric.

For many years I have collected exquisite vintage fabrics, sarees, Panjabi suits and I have been inspired to give these gorgeous textiles a new life. Many sarees are handwoven or embroidered, using techniques that have been passed down through generations.

For those who may be unfamiliar, a saree is a traditional Indian garment worn by women, consisting of a long piece of fabric draped over the body- has a long history of around 5000 years.
These outfits are often made from luxurious materials like silk, and are typically worn for special occasions such as weddings and parties. It is also worth noting that Indian weddings are often large and elaborate affairs.

My concern is about the wasteful consumption associated with wearing new and expensive outfits for each occasion during Indian weddings. In many cases, the pressure to dress up in new and extravagant outfits can be driven by social norms and expectations, as well as the desire to show off one’s wealth and status. Sadly many sarees end up being discarded and sent to landfills after being usually worn once or twice.

However, it is important to recognize that the pursuit of material status symbols can contribute to wasteful consumption and environmental degradation, and there are many ways to balance personal style and social expectations with a more sustainable approach to fashion.

We believe that by repurposing textiles, we can help reduce waste and contribute to a more sustainable future. My nearly 80-year-old mum helps me create these lovely items, bringing together her years of sewing expertise with our passion for design.

Our shop offers a glorious range of hand-sewn homewares and accessories that celebrate the fabrics of India, reborn in the UK! From bottle bags to cushion covers, bags to bedspreads, bedrunners to tablecloths, wall hangings to greeting cards, our products are one-of-a-kind and designed to bring a touch of vibrant color and texture to any space.

Through our work, we are doing our part to save the planet by upcycling, recycling, and repurposing fabrics. By giving new life to these textiles, we are reducing waste and contributing to a more sustainable future. Plus, we are honoring the cultural heritage behind these fabrics and preserving traditional craftsmanship.

Thank you for supporting our small business and for being a part of our mission to create a more sustainable world. We hope our products bring you as much joy as they have brought us in creating them.
